An elimination diet can identify foods that disturb functioning of the brain. Gluten
and dairy are two common food allergens that lead to brain disorders like ADHD due to inflammation and toxic effects.
If you've discontinued food additives, chemicals, sugar and artificial sweeteners, and sodas,
yet notice no changes in ADHD symptoms, an elimination diet of gluten and dairy may expose the culprits.
Completely
eliminate 100% of gluten (wheat, barley, spelt, oats, kamut, triticale) and dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt, sour cream, ice cream)
for 21 days.
Reintroduce the foods one at a time following the 3-week period. Monitor
reactions for 3 days, and then reintroduce the second food. Again, observe reactions for 3 days. You will notice a change
within the 3 days if not before.
Naturally, there are other common allergens. I recommend
eliminating one at a time from the additional list of common allergens, using the same 3-week procedure.
The list
includes eggs, corn, yeast products, peanuts, citrus fruit, soy, and nightshades (tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants, peppers.)
Read labels carefully. Gluten and dairy are found in many food items. This is another good reason to avoid packaged
and processed foods. Choosing a diet of whole foods eliminates the reading of labels.
